Welcome from the AGEHR President
The American Guild of English Handbell Ringers is delighted to welcome directors, ringers, and friends from around the world to the 13th International Handbell Symposium. “Ringing in Unity” is our theme, and we look forward to serving as your hosts in Orlando for this international gathering of handbell ringers.
Orlando is a world-class destination offering many famous attractions, performing arts, parks and museums, outdoor recreation, zoos, and gardens. Part of your Symposium schedule will include optional visits to the nearby SeaWorld Adventure Park, Universal Studios, or Prime Outlets. There are also many other choices for activities in the area, so you may want to extend your trip to have extra time to explore on your own. You can visit Orlando’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau website for help in planning your trip—www.orlandoinfo.com.
Your presence with us will provide opportunities for new and renewed friendships, enjoyable cultural exchanges, improved skills, inspirational music making, and memories for a lifetime. We cheerfully await your arrival!
Yours in ringing,
Deborah S. Rice

Massed Ringing Rehearsals & Repertoire
There will be eight massed ringing pieces from the six member guilds of the International Handbell Committee including an AGEHR commissioned work. The final concert will feature these selections as well as a performance by the Festival Choir and those choirs participating in Distinctly Teen. Rehearsals will take place in the Sebastian Ballroom at Rosen Shingle Creek. Audio and visual aids are being developed to make rehearsal time more efficient and productive.
Rehearsal Notes
Follow the link below that corresponds with your language for important rehearsal notes for preparation of the concert repertoire.
Rehearsal Notes for A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, directed by Miss Jae-Weoul, Song of Korea. Please play the notes circled in red on this PDF on chimes.
Classes/Workshops
Stand-alone classes and tracks (2-3 similarly themed classes) will be offered on a wide variety of topics, both technical and cultural, by leading international clinicians and presenters.
For a complete list of class offerings and descriptions, follow this link.
Participants are required to pre-register for all classes. Information regarding the registration process will be sent to your group leader or Guild representative soon.
Festival Choir
For more advanced ringing in addition to your time in massed rehearsal, you may choose to participate in the Festival Choir instead of attending classes or workshops. Spend your class time working on advanced music under the baton of David Weck, conductor of The Agape Ringers. Two selections from the music rehearsed will be performed at the Closing Symposium Concert. You must pre-register to participate in Festival Choir. Information regarding the registration process will be sent to your group leader or Guild representative soon. The Festival Choir will prepare the following repertoire:
Carnivale -- Michael J. Glasgow (Red River Music, Code Number RRG5015)
Morning Has Broken -- arr Joel Raney (Agape/Hope Publishing Company, Code Number 2430)
Rondo Passacaglia -- Cynthia Dobrinski (Agape/Hope Publishing Company, Code Number 1237
International Solo Concerts
International Solo Concerts provide single choirs and teams the opportunity to perform one selection on their own. Performance time will be limited to 4-6 minutes to accommodate as many choirs/teams as possible. Schedules for solo concert performances will be available in June.
Handbells/Handchimes/Equipment
Each choir/team is responsible for supplying its own handbells, handchimes, mallets, music stands, gloves, music, and other accessories for use during the Symposium. Tables for massed ringing rehearsals, final concert and International Solo Concerts will be provided. Tables are 6’ long by 30” wide (1.8m x 0.76m). Each choir/team has the option of bringing its own foam or purchasing foam from the event. Foam is available in 36” x 30” x 3” pieces (0.9m x 0.76m x 7.62cm) at a cost of $20.00USD each. Please bring your own table covers.
Chaperones for International Symposium and Distinctly Teen
One chaperone will be required for every six youth under the age of 18 and of the same gender. Chaperones will be charged the full fee for a regular ringer registration and will receive all associated benefits. Chaperones must remain with the youth they are supervising throughout the event.
