Overtones
The American Guild of English Handbell Ringers is dedicated to advancing the musical art of handbell/handchime ringing through education, community, and communication. The purpose of Overtones is to provide a printed resource of
highest standards to support and enhance the mission of AGEHR.
We welcome and encourage writers to submit articles about handbells, handbell music, techniques, and people. We accept both solicited and unsolicited in-depth feature stories, interviews, how-to articles, and news items as well as any other type of article that would be of interest to the handbell community.
Articles accepted will be published according to a schedule determined by the needs of the magazine and may be edited based on content and style considerations as well as space constraints.
The best way to gain a sense of our needs and style is to look at previous issues. For information about ordering back issues please contact us.

Style Guidelines
- Articles may vary in length. A full feature article should be the equivalent of 6 to 12 double spaced, typewritten pages (1200 - 2400 words).
-
Manuscripts should be written in a style that is clear and concise. The preferred manuscript style should conform to the
"B" style of The Chicago Manual of Style; however, a manuscript that has been consistently formatted with any of the generally
accepted styles will be accepted.
- Research-based articles should be written in a narrative style, free of research jargon and statistical terminology.
- Footnotes, if necessary, should be kept to a minimum, numbered consecutively and printed on a separate sheet at the end. Give a full bibliographical citation in the first reference to a work, but use abbreviated citations in subsequent ones.
Copyright and Other Legal Considerations
-
No manuscript may be simultaneously submitted to other publications.
-
Authors must secure advance permission to use musical examples or other printed works protected by copyright. Please include
the publisher's permission notification.
- AGEHR copyrights all published works. The author may not reproduce or reprint portions of the work without permission.
